"That Was Just Your Life" is an opening track of Metallica's 2008 album Death Magnetic. It has an intro, started by a sound of heartbeat, during which a clean guitar riff enters. After that, the song quickly changes into a relatively fast, classic Metallica song. Like many other tracks on Death Magnetic, it lasts over 7 minutes.

This song was used as an opener to the majority of the shows on the World Magnetic Tour. After the Ecstasy of Gold intro was finished, the tape with the album's version of the intro usually started, during which the band members entered the stage. The live show itself starts with the main riff of the song, played by James. The song was accompanied by a laser light show on the World Magnetic Tour.
