Metallica played at Pannonia Fields II, close to Nickelsdorf, Austria on June 19, 2009 as a headliner of the first day of the three-day festival Nova Rock. This was the second appearance of the band on this festival.

Price for the 3-day pass was €116.

Metallica started the show later than usual, at around 11:40pm. Although it was initially a hot summer day, it was raining during entire set, which resulted in many fans leaving the show early.

The setlist was quite different from the regular indoor shows on the World Magnetic Tour.
