Meet & Greet

Joe Pacella (JoeyDaBox from the MetClub boards), a fan from Los Angeles, was one of the lucky Meet & Greet winners. His photos with the band members:

Joe with Kirk Hammett

Joe with Lars Ulrich

Joe posted the following description of his experience on the official MetClub boards in the thread My Meet and Greet Experience):

I just got back from Fresno. The Meet and Greet was awesome. I brought my BC rich guitar and a TOASTER for them to sign. That is right, a freaking toaster. They loved it. They came out one at a time. Robert was 1st. I just told him that I enjoyed his show at the wiltern when him and Flea played double bass on "Fight fire with fire." He saw the toaster and said, "My girl and I need a new toaster, ours just broke." Kirk was next to arrive. When he was about to sign my guitar, he looked down and saw the toaster behind my leg and said, "Holy shit, a toaster, that is great." I basically just told him that he rocked and I can't wait for tonight's performance. Next up was James. He signed the Guitar and when I pulled out the toaster he laughed. He said, "I have to say, I have never signed a toaster before. We have to get a picture with the toaster." Lars was last. When he got to me, I pulled out a book which displays 160 if my T-shirts. As he was thumbing through it, I asked if there was ever a Red YMA shirt. He said "yes and he had one. It is yours for $20." I said "Really." He said "No" laughing. He didn't know how many red ones there were. He asked me if he could have my T-shirt book. I told him that it was for you guys to have. I was honored that he asked for it. I only had 160 of the 220 shirts in there. I wore my '85 KILL 'EM ALL Jersey. Which also got a lot of comments. Well that is the whole story. All and all it was awesome.

Reviews

  • Report from backstage with Metallica (published by MercuryNews.com on December 14, 2008):

The band — which will perform a sold-out show Saturday at Oakland’s Oracle Arena — was in fine form, playing on a stage in the middle of the floor with the exuberant Lars at center stage on a circular drum riser. The 15,000 seats were nearly full, and several hundred standing fans squeezed in around the enormous stage on the floor, which had enough room left over at one end for a circle pit to spring up during “Master of Puppets.”
