Metallica - Death Magnetic

Death Magnetic is the ninth studio album by Metallica, released on September 12, 2008 by Warner Bros. Records, five years after its predecessor, St. Anger. It is the band's first studio album featuring current bassist Robert Trujillo, who joined the band in 2003.

The album was produced by Rick Rubin and is the first Metallica's album since 1991 self-titled Metallica not produced by Bob Rock.

Death Magnetic was heavily promoted for several months prior to its release by the website called Mission: Metallica.

Death Magnetic is also the band's fifth consecutive studio album to debut at #1 on the Billboard 200 in the United States, making Metallica the first band ever to achieve five consecutive #1 debuts.

All lyrics on the album were written by James Hetfield. All tracks were composed by all four members of the band, which means that Robert Trujillo has more song credits on this first album with Metallica, than the former bass player Jason Newsted had for 14 years.

The album's artwork and packaging were designed by Turner Duckworth, an award-winning design shop usually working with brands like Coca-Cola or Amazon.com. Lars approached David Turner, one of the company's founders he is friends with, thanks to their children attending the same school.

The tour that is following the release of Death Magnetic is titled World Magnetic Tour. As of November 2008, each show of the tour had the following 5 songs from the album in the setlist: "That Was Just Your Life", "The End of the Line", "Broken, Beat & Scarred", "The Day That Never Comes" and "Cyanide".

The closing track of the album, "My Apocalypse", won a Grammy Award in the "Best Metal Performance" category on February 8, 2009.
